Frontier Ruckus
Miguel saw Frontier Ruckus over the weekend and sent me this live video. This is mighty fine stuff that makes Michigan proud!

I want to live in this specific world…

…where I can use this typeface called Thaiglish designed by Thun Puchpen (YWFT) for a client and have them be blown away by it. It’s glorious in it’s decadence.

Another Muxtape
Add another Muxtape to the mix, err mux. This is a compilation of primarily music released or to be released in 2008 with a couple new 2007 finds from across the pond that got to me late.

Aussie Rules Tuesday Night
-
PNAU - Wild Strawberries -
Midnight Juggernauts - Shadows -
Damn Arms - Test Pattern Clip -
KROZM VIDEO SHOWREEL 2007
So basically Zach and I spent our Tuesday night getting caught up with the Aussie electro-pop-punk scene. Why? I dunno, why not? These are three music videos and a video from KROZM that makes tons of cool Aussie music videos that caught my eye. I don’t even particularly love this music or anything, but it was a good way to spend a boring Tuesday going back and forth with links to funny Myspace pages. Here’s a rundown:
- Midnight Juggernauts
- PNAU
- Damn Arms
- KROZM
- Breakbot - Liked his stuff the best & he’s French not Aussie. This is the jam - “Happy Rabbits” (MP3)

If you ever want to get it on in space and the Barbarella soundtrack is wearing thin, may Zach and I humbly recommend the Midnight Juggernauts.

Seabear
-
Seabear - I Sing I Swim -
Seabear - Arms
I am still getting around to listening to great records from 2007 and one I totally missed was by this band from Iceland called Seabear. The Ghost That Carried Us Away has a gentleness with playful tinkering and is a record that takes it’s time and builds off finely crafted pop ditties. It feels Icelandic - hushed, beautiful and lush like a cable-knit sweater.

4 x 4 Meme
Paul Armstrong kind of tagged me, so here goes:
4 Jobs I’ve Had
- Taco Bell (All positions) I started working at Taco Bell as soon as I turned 16 and worked there throughout my high school years. I made tacos, washed dishes, drive thru, made beans (which meant picking out rocks in the beans, rinsing them & then beating them with lard - now they come freeze dried and vegetarian), grilled steak (now it comes in a bag), dressed up as a burrito and handed out coupons at local events, assistant manager, manager and my favorite guacamole vs sour cream wars.
- Flyer guy During my Junior summer until the year after I graduated, I delivered concert flyers to the metro Detroit boutiques, record stores and places young people hung out in return for my gas money and +1 to almost any concert or gig in Detroit. You name the alternative/indie band circa 1991-1994 and I probably saw them for free.
- Junior Designer I quit college in my Senior year because the internet was exploding and I couldn’t turn down the opportunities and money. I had designed many of the first websites for Wayne State University for work study. I then put a resume out on the web on a Monday and by Friday I had 26 people call me and 14 offers. I took a job as a Junior Web Designer at Mercy Health Systems. I chose them over a startup because I want a job with kick ass health benefits, great pay, 6 weeks paid vacation and opportunities to lead a team. It was fun for the year I worked there and then the startups started offering me way too much money. Oh the good old days!
- Creative Director For all my complaining and bitching about my current job, it’s been more good than bad and my team are great people. I’ve had some crazy ass bosses, but working with Zach, Steve, Melanie and Nici for almost 6 years has been great.
4 TV Shows I’m Watching
- 30 Rock - My favorite current show on TV
- Arrested Development - Christie got me the DVDs for my birthday and they are just layered upon layers of goodness that requires multiple viewings
- Mad Men - I loved the first season. It was very depressing, but it had amazing writing and acting that made Mad Men very unique. Also, I am a sucker for mid-century modern furniture cuz I am design gay!
- Psych - It’s quirky and cute and Christie and I like to watch Monk and Psych. It makes me chuckle.
4 Places I’ve Been
- Freihung Nord, Germany When I was a Freshman in High School, my parents packed up the family and we moved to Germany for 2 years. My Dad is a government contractor and he worked and I went to school on a military base. We lived outside the military base in a cool house on a hill in the middle of nowhere. I loved it. We travelled all across Europe while we lived there and got to witness the Berlin Wall falling down while we were there.
- Paris, France I have been to Paris about 4 or 5 times now and I love it every time I go. As kids we spent a Christmas there and it was magical. The museums, streets, smells, crepes, attitudes… I love it all
- Moscow, Russia I got to go to Russia in my Senior year of High School and what an exciting time it was to be in Russia. Statues of Lenin and Stalin were being taken down and I got to see the old Soviet life with fresh eyes. I will never forget all the concrete and the largeness of everything - it was all “bolshoi” (big).
- Florence, Italy Christie and I went to Venice, Florence and Paris for our honeymoon and my favorite time together was in Florence. It was warm in May, we ate so much gelato and walked care-free and checked out the Uffizi Gallery, and strolled on the Ponte Vecchio and the amazing architecture by Brunelleschi.
4 Musical Artists I’m Listening To Right Now
- Bon Iver
- Yea Big + Kid Static
- Black Mountain
- Phosphorescent

Back in black
Actually more like dark grey. I figured if I were to re-enter the world of blogging and personal revelations, I’d try to start with the basics. I literally designed and launched this site in 24 hours after being sick for about 5 days. There are bugs in IE and I will get those fixed soon. Let me know if you find any other bugs.
