Going in after him

Well barring a little miracle, we’ll be going in after our son tomorrow afternoon. I think it’s time. Christie has been getting back problems and walks with a limp when it’s really sore and being pregnant with a two year old isn’t easy, especially in the last month. We will be spending the weekend at Providence Hospital in Southfield. Gimme a call or shoot me an email if you want to visit.

I think we are ready. At lunch we made the name decision. We’re not telling until it’s official. We don’t want to hear, “Oh, that was the name of the drunkard on our block growing up.” Well not until it’s too late to change it! The name hint: both names are in the New Testament of the Bible and one of them is the name of an AIM buddy currently online in my buddy list. He’s actually a jerk, don’t know why we are naming our son that!

Spiritualized - Soul On Fire

A new track from the forthcoming Spiritualized record, Songs in A&E to be released in the UK on May 26th and a day later in the US (according to Amazon). Hey Jason Pierce, let’s release more than 1 record every 5 years! It’s been too long.

I really like the record on one or two listens. I’ll formulate a better review but the quick one is very smooth for the first half, rocking and all out for a couple middle tracks and then back to smooth for the finish.

Four capital letters… ask my name

Justice - DVNO

I’m not even a huge Justice fan, but I love this video as a typophile, one who loves typography. I also love the crunchy bass riff at the end.

A Love Supreme

John Coltrane's Love SupremeI am half awake at my computer desk reading my email drinking a C-Boost Tropical Fruit Smoothie and my daughter, Maya opens the door and walks up to me and says, “Dahh-dee.” I look down and somehow she has acquired my CD of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme.

So I put the disc into my computer and she picks up a pen and starts to draw. Elvin Jones’ drums and Jimmy Garrison’s bass kick in and she’s drawing… McCoy Tyner’s piano lays in there, she’s drawing. Wham! John Coltrane comes in with his tenor sax and she stops what she is doing and looks at me and smiles.

Pure love is supreme, a love supreme, a love supreme…

The Obama Doctrine

The following is taken from an article from The American Prospect on Barack Obama’s foreign policy strategy that Ethan Marcotte linked to yesterday.

Barack ObamaThey also share a formative experience with each other and with Obama. Each opposed the Iraq War at a time when doing so was derided by their colleagues, by journalists, and by the foreign-policy establishment. Each did so because they understood that the invasion and occupation ran counter to the goal of destroying al-Qaeda. And each bore the frustration of endless lectures on their lack of so-called seriousness from those who suffered from strategic myopia.

“There is a popular notion that Democrats have to try to appear like Republicans to pass some test on national security. The fact that that’s still the case after Iraq is absurd,” says one of Obama’s closest advisers. “So you break from that orthodoxy and say ‘I don’t care if the Republicans attack me because I’m willing to meet with the leadership in Iran. We haven’t for 25 years, and it’s not gotten us anywhere.’”

Past Due

Today is my wife, Christie’s due date. It had looked like we were going to rack up some late fees, but we got the baby re-checked out for another week at the doctor’s office today. Basically what it comes down to is, Christie has another week to have the son of a gun (that’s right, I’m a gun alright) or they’ll go in after him.

We have a week left for you to submit some name ideas for the boy and for me to clean up the house and get another car seat installed.

Also keep Joshua Neds-Fox (JNONFICTION) and his family in your prayers and thoughts today as his wife, Zena is scheduled to deliver their new daughter, Eleanor.
