Kim Deal is really this cool and down to earth. One of my highlights of last year’s SXSW was hanging out with Kim Deal at the Merge Showcase for about 10 minutes. She and I were talking about her new record and how she was doing some recording in Texas. She was making fun of 4AD because apparently they forgot to invite her to the 4AD showcase even though “I am in friggin Texas already!”. Why was she telling me all this? I have no clue, but she seemed to be one of those people who was open and not about celebrity or anything. I guess Dayton can do that for you. 

I bought her a beer and she was like, “thanks a bunch Jim, but I think I get these for free here.” I replied while taking back my beer, “I guess I bought my buddy Zach a beer!”
